The first step in the process is diamond grinding. This smooths and preps the concrete surface for optimal adhesion. Once grinding is complete, thoroughly vacuum to remove all dust and debris before applying the prime coat.
Before proceeding, ensure your surface is completely clean, solid, and free of all dust and debris. It's crucial to remove any dirt or particles, as they can affect the quality of the outcome. A spotless, sturdy base is essential for success.
Use the base coat for your metallic floor – we suggest either our Dura-Kote Water Based Coloured Epoxy or Dura-Kote Pigmented Epoxy 100 in black or at least a very dark color, even for epoxy garage floor surfaces.
Once the prime coat has cured, the floor needs to be screened with a 100 grit sanding screen. This process helps to smooth the surface. Make sure to thoroughly vacuum all subsequent dust and debris from the surface afterward.
Mix 1 canister (16oz) of metallic pearls per 3 gallons of Dura-Kote Epoxy 100. Mechanically mix with a drill and paddle mixer. Pour the sealer in a ribbon and spread as desired, wearing spiked shoes.
After the epoxy metallic coating cures, apply a top or "sacrificial" coat for durability. Screen the floor with a 100-grit sanding screen and vacuum off all dust and debris. This ensures a long-lasting, beautiful floor.
